Requirements for Manuscript Submission
Requirements for Manuscript Submission
Manuscripts submitted to the International Journal of Multicultural Education must present original research findings and address topics within multicultural education and related fields. Only unpublished manuscripts that have not been submitted simultaneously to other journals and that are deemed to have scholarly merit will be considered for publication. Detailed policies governing manuscript review and submission procedures shall be specified in the regulations explained below.
Ethical Research Regulations of the International Journal of Multicultural Education
These ethical research regulations are established to uphold research ethics in the publication of manuscripts in the International Journal of Multicultural Education (IJME) and to set forth procedures for ensuring compliance with the ethical standards specified herein. The IJME Editorial Board shall review all submitted manuscripts in accordance with these standards.
Manuscripts found to involve research misconduct — including "fabrication," "falsification," "plagiarism," and "duplicate publication" — shall not be accepted for publication. Where such misconduct is discovered after publication, appropriate measures including retraction of the article shall be taken.
- "Fabrication" refers to the act of inventing non-existent data, results, or other research materials and presenting them as genuine in a manuscript.
- "Falsification" refers to the act of artificially manipulating research materials, equipment, or processes, or arbitrarily altering or omitting data in a manner that distorts the content or findings of the research.
- "Plagiarism" refers to the act of appropriating another person's ideas, research content, results, or other intellectual contributions without crediting the original author or authors.
- "Duplicate publication" refers to the act of submitting a manuscript whose content — in whole or in substantial part — has already been published in another journal without disclosure, or of publishing manuscripts of identical or substantially similar content in two or more journals simultaneously.
Definition of Authors and Co-Authors
- An author must have made substantive contributions to the conception or design of the research, or to the collection, analysis, or interpretation of data; must have participated in drafting or critically revising the manuscript for important intellectual content; and must have approved the final version of the manuscript as submitted for publication.
- Individuals who provided meaningful assistance to the research but did not fulfill the authorship criteria specified in paragraph 1 may be acknowledged by name in the Acknowledgements section of the manuscript.
Protection of Research Participants
As a general principle, written informed consent must be obtained from all human participants involved in the research. Where institutional review boards exist at authors’ home institutions, their permission is necessary for human subjects research.
Obligations of Reviewers
With recognition of the valuable service reviewers provide to the journal and its authors, reviewers are expected to safeguard the confidentiality of the work entrusted to them and to refrain from publicly disclosing the content of any manuscript assigned to them for review.
Sanctions
In cases where research misconduct is confirmed, the following sanctions shall apply:
- If a submitting author is found to have committed research misconduct, the manuscript in question shall not be published. If the misconduct is discovered after a manuscript has been accepted or published, the Editorial Board shall rescind the acceptance or publication, and the author shall be prohibited from submitting manuscripts to IJME for a period of five years.
- If a reviewer is found to have engaged in research misconduct, the manuscript under review will be reassigned to another reviewer to protect the fairness and integrity of the peer review process. The reviewer will not be invited to conduct peer review for IJME for a period of five years.
